If you know my Dad, you know why I wrote a song for him. He is one of the most inclusive, caring and kind people I know. He can also be one of the most stubborn, hard headed and relentless people I've ever known as well (if you ever saw him play basketball back in the day - you understand what I mean). He would beat people because he wanted it more, hustled more, and had a great shot (including a baby hook no one could touch). But he also was a great passer... he got everyone involved... he won by being a team player and knowing that the whole is always greater then the individual. With that type of behavior modeled to me throughout my childhood, I became the man I am today.
And of course laughter... laughing, joking, telling stories... enjoying all the "stuff" life throws at you with a smile.
lyrics
You taught me to be brave
To embrace in joy
The lessons that you gave
Filled up this little boy
You asked me to be kind
Let it be my guide
But never to be blind
To see where snakes reside
Oh, who'd I be
If not for thee
Loving this life
Eternally
You showed me how to play
With a wink and nod
And never to enslave
The child that's inside
You always had that shine
Like the morning star
I never had to wait
To see the face of God
Oh, who'd I be
If not for thee
Loving this life
Eternally
