I've been cutting my own hair for more than a decade. I use my trusty Wahl hair clippers (most of the time with #2) and pretty much go by feel at this point. On 10/20/19 I was in the process of this ritual cutting and I began harmonizing with them. I actually still have the recording on my phone... I named it "harmonies with clippers." It was a first take and I used the same exact clippers, notes and progression on the actual recording months later. I think Kevin (owner of Backroom Studios) thought it a bit strange that I was recording hair clippers in the studio. Of course, Earl M. then added his string intuition and talent and Kevin added layers of production... but it all started in a bathroom, cutting my hair and harmonizing with the noise in my head.
